What Products Sell Well on eBay?

Knowing which products to sell on eBay is one of the biggest challenges you face when starting an eBay business. Every week, new eBay sellers fall by the wayside simply because they tried to sell a product that no-one wanted to buy – or they bit off more than they could chew and ended up battling against some very tough competition!

Thankfully, there are some great ways to determine which products sell best on eBay.

First, check out what the popular products are on eBay by looking at tools such as eBay Pulse and eBay Popular Products.

These tools provide valuable insight into what buyers are currently searching for.

eBay Pulse

eBay Pulse gives you a bird’s-eye-view of what ‘s hot on eBay by providing lists of popular searches and stores, allowing you to see precisely what is being searched for and bought on eBay. You can use eBay Pulse to drill down into categories to check out what the popular items are in the categories you are interested in selling under.

For example, if I want to sell baby products, I will select ‘Baby’ from the category drop-down menu and see that cribs and diaper bags are very popular among buyers.

eBay Popular Items

eBay Popular Products presents insider information by showing the most popular items in each product category. This is fantastic for sellers who have some idea of what it is they want to sell; if I want to sell DVDs, I can easily see that Glee: Season 1 and The Little Mermaid 2006 are currently among the 10 most popular DVDs.

Get the Whole Truth from eBay’s Completed Listings

eBay’s Completed Listings data shows you which items sold, and which items did not. You can search eBay’s Completed Listings in 3 simple steps:

  1. To search eBay’s Completed Listings go to eBay.com and click Advanced Search which is located next to the search tool bar on any page.
  2. Click Search and eBay will instantly give you all data from the past 30 days showing you which listings sold (represented with price listed in green) and which did not (represented with price listed in red).
  3. Scan these pages and count up the results. If you find that at least 60% of the total listings sold, you can be fairly certain that there is a sufficient demand for the item.

Above all else, keep in mind that in order to build a sustainable and long-term business, you should sell something that you enjoy. A wise person once said that if you “do something you love, you’ll never work a day in your life”, and I couldn’t agree more!
